ABOUT

My objective of promoting UrbanBaGuaNYC is to teach a more practical and realistic approach of Eight Diagram palm (Ba Gua Zhang) to individuals throughout the New York's City tri-state area this highly scientific Chinese martial art. My goal is not to teach or focus on the prearranged techniques that is commonly taught  today to individuals that take interest in learning Ba Gua Zhang.

My perspective of coaching someone in learning BaGua is to teach He/She how to  express themselves freely in executing BaGuaZhang combat tactices, but to help individuals achieve complete liberation when practicing or executing the combat techniques of BaGua.

BaGuaZhang is known as a guerrilla warfare style. A practitioner must master the art of mobility. But most of all He/She must be unpredictable in executing their techniques. A BaGua practitioner empty hand techniques is based upon the principles of change. So the highest martial art skill level in Ba Gua Zhang is for the practitioner to embrace complete liberation. This is the essence and practice of Urban BaGuaNYC to embrace freedom of self expression when utilizing the art of BaGuaZhang.

My Name is Novell G. Bell A.K.A. The Black Taoist I have  been involved in the Chinese martial arts since 1982. I  trained in Yin Style BaGuaZhang, (Cao branch) Jiang Rong Qiao BaGuaZhang, TaiChiQuan, XingYiQuan, SanDa  Lohan Shaolin and various other Kung Fu Styles.

As a Kung Fu instructor and practioner I teach all mental, physical and spiritual aspects of the martial arts, Yet I  stresses the practical usage of the Chinese martial arts styles. Sensitivity, timing, and proper usage of power and technique are not just shown but emphasized in free sparring.

The chinese internal martial arts are also known for having superior positive impact on negative health conditions. Quite often, individuals can improve their health, as well as procure a peace of mind while developing practical combat skills for self-defense.
